Nominations Open for Election of New SGAC Co-Chair 10 January, 2012 As the term of SGAC's current Chair, Michael Brett (Australia), draws to a close, SGAC is excited to announce nominations are open for a new Co-Chair for SGAC. The new Co-Chair will work alongside remaining Chair, Catherine Doldirina (Georgia), and the Executive Committee to shape the future of SGAC.
Position description:
• Represent the organisation in official capacities • Chair the General Assembly and meetings of the Executive Committee • Together with the other Chair, cast the tie-breaking vote in decisions of the Executive council • Uphold the Statutes and By-Laws of the organisation • Develop and execute the organisation’s strategic plan • Mentor, assist and coordinate the activities of the Regional Coordinators towards meeting the objectives of the organisation and the current work plan • Oversee the work of the Executive Office and any other appointed officers, working groups or standing committees established by the organisation
• Pre-approved expenses incurred in the execution of duties (such as travel, administration, etc.) will be reimbursed in full
To be eligible to nominate for the position, the candidate must either: • Be a current Regional Coordinator or have been a Regional Coordinator in the past 12 months and secure the nomination of at least two other Regional Coordinators OR • Be a current member of the Executive Office and secure the nomination of at least two Regional Coordinators
• Be a citizen of a UN member State • Be between 18 and 35 years old at the time of the election • Demonstrate leadership and teamwork experience • Possess good communications skills in English and preferably in other United Nations (UN) official languages • Have a good understanding of space and cultural issues • Be familiar with the work of the UN and its objectives • Have knowledge of the UN Committee of Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN COPUOS) and its objectives • Have preferably hands-on experience in projects/activities for young adults and space-related projects
