Young Space Activities Overview in Kenya

SGAC Kenya is very active in a number of educational projects in Kenya. Star gazing events organized with other NGOs are a tool to build communities, since these projects are open to members of the public and families of students. Currently, two telescopes are available for star gazing events, and SGAC Kenya often cooperates with the University of Nairobi in conducting bigger events. During various star gazing events held at the schools we work with, we also get a chance to introduce free astronomy software such as Stellarium, Cellestia, Google Earth and SalsaJ to the students and the people attending. Another very active educational program is the Universe Awareness, targeting young and underprivileged children in primary schools. The aim of this international program is to introduce the pupils to the scale and the beauty of the universe. Interactive astronomy clubs for high school students are also organized throughout the country, which are a key part of an after school program. These students are now working with younger children in student mentoring projects. They teach the younger primary school students simple astronomy concepts using astronomy software.
