SGAC Sudan
Welcome to SGAC Sudan! Here we aim to provide you with a holistic perspective of the space community and space related activities in Sudan. Additionally, we encourage you to participate in those activities by getting a quick look at them here. Although the space community in Sudan is still relatively small, SGAC Sudan tries to bring this topic closer to you. There are new and modern visions to be reviewed and studied by all of us. Young Space Activities Overview in Sudan Space related activities commenced more than five decades ago, however, in Sudan these activities are still in their first steps. The governmental space program is mainly represented by the Remote Sensing Authority and the Sudan Institute for Natural Resources. The Remote Sensing Authority has been cooperating with the General Organization of Remote Sensing of Syria (GORS), the Inter Islamic Network on Space Science and Technology (ISNET), and the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmospheric Research Commission (SUPARCO). It is also a member of the Arab Remote Sensing Union and the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.
There are some societies and departments of space and astronomy in the Sudanese universities. Due to high demand of geoinformatics studies many universities have started to establish faculties and departments to give academic degrees of B.Sc. and M.Sc. like at the Future University and Sudan Academy of Science. Future University has established a space research center and Faculty of Geoinformatics which is considered is the first specialized faculty in Sudan, and they have many research and awareness activities targeting youth. Recently, the government has begun to study the establishment of the Sudan Space Agency, which will be a significant step for space sciences in Sudan working towards participating effectively in the development of the country; also some engineers are starting to work in designing a small satellite for multipurpose use as a new innovation and this is under discussion.
