SGAC China

Welcome to the national page of China! We believe it does not matter whether you are studying or working in the space field or whether you are just interested in space generally, you can always play a role in the development of space. “Space” is a broad topic... each one of us has to explore what it means individually. Young Space Activities Overview in China

Aerospace related areas in China have developed very promisingly in the past few years. Many young Chinese have subsequently decided to devote themselves to space-related areas. The enrolment in aero-universities and the number of new aerospace employees are growing. Further, there are many exhibitions all year round in different cities of China, which are attracting a growing number of attendees. When talking about space, people often express how proud they are of the astronauts and the technology that has made spaceflight possible. SGAC China is here to pull these young people together to grow our solidarity domestically and internationally in the exploration and development of space!

Country-Specific Events in 2011
  • China to Launch Space Station Module in 2011, (Hong Kong): The Heavenly Palace, the first module in China’s permanent space station, will be launched in 2011. China’s space program has made major inroads since it launched its first satellite in April 1970, a craft called Dong Fang Hong-1, or The East Is Red. In October 2003, China’s first manned spacecraft made 14 orbits of the Earth. The country’s first spacewalk took place 18 months ago. Aerospace experts and military officials say the Chinese military space program has made significant advancements in recent years, notably when it tested an antisatellite system in 2007, using a ballistic missile to shoot down one of its own weather satellites 540 miles up.
  • Space Generation Congress 2011: The biggest event for SGAC members to celebrate and take part in. It is an opportunity for you to excel yourself and also to meet friends from all over the world, who have the same interests as you. It is also a chance for you to make your voice in space policy through the Congress projects.
  • The 3rd Annual China Commercial Aircraft Summit & Expo 2011: China, the world's most dynamic market for commercial airplanes, is forecasted to require 3,770 new commercial airplanes valued at $490 billion over the next 20 years.  To compete with Boeing and Airbus and to reduce Chinas reliance on overseas manufacturers, China has planned out its own ARJ regional jet program and C919 large commercial aircraft program. Parts and components will be sourced globally, emulating the model adopted by Airbus and Boeing which will make CCA 2010 attractive to international aerospace companies looking to win tenders for the programme.
  • China has pledged to develop its domestic aerospace industry in order to reduce reliance on overseas suppliers. All facets of the process, from design and production to sourcing materials and assembly will be done in China. The central government would consider accepting overseas investment in its aerospace industry CAATS would be a superb opportunity for overseas companies to present their strength, standing and commitment to China as a whole.  "Green" technology is now reshaping the landscape of the global aerospace manufacturing industry. Advanced composite materials, next-generation engines, R&D and supply chain management, are leading us to a new era of an energy-efficient and environmental friendly aerospace industry. Amid the global slowdown, aircraft leasing is expanding rapidly in China and Asia as airliners seeks to shore up balance sheets.
