SGAC South Korea

Welcome to the national page of SGAC of South Korea! South Korea is about to join the ranks of advanced countries in the aerospace field. South Korea launched its first astronaut in April 2008 and will become the tenth country to independently launch a satellite into space with the launch of Korea Space Launch Vehicle (KSLV) followed by the launch of the geostationary satellite, Communication Ocean and Meteorological Satellite (COMS). Korea also successfully hosted the 2009 International Astronautical Congress and the Space Generation Congress (SGC) in Daejeon with the support of KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) and KARI (Korea Aerospace Research Institute). Korea hopes to strengthen its capacity in the aerospace field in accordance with its position as one of the top ten economies in the world.

Young Space Activities Overview in South Korea

With the successful opening of IAC2009 and SGC2009 in Daejeon, Korea, many young generations in Korea have been interested in space fields and they have tried to form certain communities. As the government focuses on the development of the aerospace field more, roles of the young generation who are interested in space became more important. Some undergraduate students applied to Korea Aerospace Research Institute for the internship program, so they tried not only to keep their interest in space but also to develop their experience in the space field. Also, some undergraduate students have participated in competitions for small satellites. In addition, there are many social or local communities which focus on the topics related to space such as designing rockets and observing stars.
