International year of planet Earth

The United Nations General Assembly, meeting in New York, has proclaimed the year 2008 to be the United Nations International Year of Planet Earth. The Year's activities will span the three years 2007-2009.
The International Year of Planet Earth project was initiated jointly by the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) and the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). ESTC coordinated the establishment of national committee to implement the activities of IYPE in Ethiopia.

PAST EVENTS

4th Annual General Assembly of Ethiopian Space Science Society (ESSS)

ESSS had held its general assembly on may 24,2008 at faculty of technology, Addis Ababa University. More than 200 members, invited guests, representatives of youth clubs, universities and private sectors participated on the general assembly.

SGAC and UPS at ESSS General Assembly

SGAC and the Union of Physics Students (UPS) jointly participated on the General Assembly of ESSS and a display of materials, posters, pictures and CD's was made. The materials were obtained during the IHY-SCINDA workshop held in Addis Ababa in November 2007.

Yuri's Night
Ethiopia celebrated the yuri's night for the first time on april 12, 2008. The party was organized in two ways. During the day of april 12, students from Addis Ababa University and from more than 10 high schools gathered at Science facutly, Addis Ababa University to celebrate the event. Portable planeterium, posters and CDs were distributed to participants. Space science film shows and demonstrations were also part of this great event.
On the night of april 12, Another program was held in Adama University. Participants of the night had various choices; music,film shows and sky view using the telescopes made available from the univerity.
Additionally, Bekele Tujuba made a presentation to introduce SGAC and its activities on special program organized by Russian Embassy on april 11, 2008 to honour the first human space flight.
