The European Space Agency plans to select four new european astronauts and four backup astronauts this year. Two events will find place in Switzerland to offically launch the selection campaign.

The first event will take place in the french-speaking part of Switzerland, at the EPFL Space Center in Lausanne, on the 1st of April.

The second event will take place in the german-speaking part of Switzerland, at the ETHZ Space Biology Group Institute in Zürich on the 8th of April.

Applicants must have a university degree (or equivalent) in Natural Sciences (physics, biology, chemistry, mathematics), Engineering or Medicine, and preferably at least three years of related postgraduate professional experience, or flying experience as a pilot. It is a strong asset, but not mandatory, to have studied aeronautics and astronautics. Also, applicants must be able to speak and write English, and it is an advantage to know another foreign language. Speaking Russian is an asset but not a requirement.
