Course Subject
Remote Sensing Applications using Coarse Resolution Data
Pre-requisites
Basic understanding of Remote Sensing with some computer experience
Objectives
The coarse resolution satellite remote sensing data with wide area frequent coverage carry great potential in a variety of applications relating to Land and the Sea. In this category of satellites, NOAA AVHRR HRPT/APT and data through Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MODIS) on board Terra and Aqua satellite system are worth mentioning. Various regional and global studies relating to mapping, monitoring and detection of changes in the vegetal cover, snow estimation have been conducted for study of various dynamic processes relating to natural resource and environment.
The training aims at providing concepts and methodologies in operational use of such coarse resolution datasets with particular reference to vegetal cover, climate change, drought, desertification, bio-chemical studies, cloud cover, sea/land surface temperature as well as natural disturbances and anthropogenic effects on eco-system as well as irrigation applications. The training will also highlight the use of Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission (SRTM) data for generating DEM/DTM and their related applications.
