sponsors

Companies working in the Space Transportation field might be interested to support our competition. We have to think about two things:

- which companies could we approach for that?

and maybe even more important:

- how can we convince them that they should support us?

Before actually making

Before actually making contact with companies, please go through Sarah Crook, the sponsorship coordinator for SGAC. Email her using sarah at spacegeneration.org

We do not want to look silly and ask a company for money if we have already made a request. We must be professional about this.

I definitely agree. I could

I definitely agree.

I could come up with a list of private aerospace companies and foundations, too. Let me know when I need to do this.

Also, in the Getting Ready for SGC thread, I asked what SGC's budget was for this competition but that is not known yet.

OK, lets have someone contact Sarah with a list of companies that we want to contact, so that she can check her list and let us know is there are any clashes(any volunteers to compile the list ?)

Yeah kevin, if there is any support from SGC and any allocated budget, pls.let us know as well.

There is no budget from SGC

There is no budget from SGC for this. Part of the work of the group will be to organize that.

Don't just think of who to

Don't just think of who to contact, but what are you asking for?

One prize could be winners get to come to SGC 2008 for free, now get Virgin Galactic and other airlines to donate flights, get companies to donate the hotel cost, get companies to donate the registration fee.

What else would be good prizes? How many do you want to give? Is this an individual writing the paper or is it a team? Do you give a prize to the team, or one to each person on the team?
If you have 500 papers submitted, are you only going to give one award? Or do you give awards to the top 5 overall, or top 3 in each of 5 or 6 categories.

Got a bit to think about still

I think that a prize in each

I think that a prize in each of the categories would be fair. I think it would be a bit unfair to have such different categories competing for one prize. Like, how do you know which paper out of ALL the categories would be the best and most innovative? I think that a trip for the top winner in each category would be best. Would that be too much, though?

The top 3 papers in each category could have a publication sent to their universities letting them know of the students' achievements. I think that would be good for recognizing more than just the top papers. And that shouldn't be TOO expensive.

Is it feasible to have just individuals submit papers?

A publication in a reputed

A publication in a reputed magazine sounds awesome! Especially if these ideas are very innovative.

I don't think we will have a limit on the number of entries we will receive. We will select a panel of judges when we get a final competition format together and everyone agrees on what should happen with the competition.

This is a volunteer thing so I don't think there are any awards or certificates for working on this competition.
