Things to do before SGC 2007
We're getting closer and closer to the Congress and really need to get some things done beforehand.
I've copied Alex Karl's list of things to do (I really, really hope he doesn't mind) because that's essentially what we need to do.
Some of the following task we need to finish before SGC:
•Define contest (fully)
•Define Guidelines & rules (fully)
•Prepare internet presence (as much as possible)
We can set up "hidden" pages for our project on the SGAC server, so we can start building the competition web site.
•Prepare advertisement (as much as possible)
•Prepare competition management (as much as possible)
That includes: sponsorship, budget, outreach, distribution etc.
•Prepare presentation to introduce project at SGC (fully)
We have to present our project at the first day of SGC to the other groups. We need a short (10 minutes) presentation for that.
Ok, the contest is defined as: A technical space transportation paper competition.
We will probably need more on that, though. Any suggestions?
The guidelines and rules are (from other threads):
SAE format
3000 words max
Teams of up to 3 members
Secondary students through graduate school students are eligible to compete
Deadline for submissions is January 2008
Results 1 month later
1 professional to category, with the 2 to 3 SGAC reps included, and limit to seven categories
We start to advertise the competition at IAC 2007
Categories are:
Propulsion
Trajectories
Lift-off
Descent
with sublevels:
Propulsion:
- chemical
- nuclear
- electric
- etc.
Trajectories (orbital mechanics):
- time and energy optimisation
- interplanetary superhighways
- aerocapturing
- etc.
Lift-Off (from Earth,Moon and Mars):
- SSTO
- space elevator
- conventional chemical rockets
- magnetic launchers
- etc.
Descent (some of the Lift-Off systems when reversed could do the same):
- tethers
- vertical/horizontal landing
- etc.
Would anyone like to volunteer to help prepare competition management? That includes sponsorship, budget, outreach, distribution etc.
And as far as the presentation, what do we want to say? Do we just want to go over the specifics of the competition? Or more? Suggestions?
