SPACE
GENERATION FOUNDATION HONORED TO JOIN SPACE EXPLORATION
ALLIANCE
SANTA MONICA, June 11, 2004 - The Space Generation Foundation (SpaceGen),
a non-profit space exploration advocacy group for young professionals,
has accepted an invitation to become the eighteenth member organization
of the Space Exploration Alliance.
The Space Exploration Alliance (SEA) brings together aerospace interest
groups from across the nation to collectively support the exploration
of space. The Alliance was formed on May 7th, 2004 with the intent of
promoting the new national vision for space exploration, which they refer
to as Moon, Mars and Beyond.
"We
are honored to join the Space Exploration Alliance and
support the
nation's new space exploration initiative." SpaceGen President Loretta
Hidalgo said, "It's inspiring to see all the space advocacy groups
join together to support our common dreams of spaceflight.
We are excited for what is now possible."
One
of the first projects for the Alliance is a 'Moon-Mars
Blitz' on Capitol Hill July 11-13. During this event,
the organizations will
bring their
members to Washington to visit as many congressional members
and staff as
possible with a single message: "Fund NASA's requests for FY 2005
for
starting the new Moon, Mars, and Beyond initiative."
Tim
Bailey, Director of Educational Programs for the Foundation
said, "This
is a defining moment for our generation. Now it's up to
us to make this new vision a reality. "
Original Space Exploration Alliance Press Release follows:
SPACE EXPLORATION ALLIANCE GROWS AS MOON-MARS BLITZ APPROACHES
In a continuation of unprecedented unity within the space
community, the Space
Exploration Alliance today announced that seven additional
groups have joined their
number to push for Moon, Mars and Beyond. This brings total
SEA membership to 20
organizations.
Most SEA members are now deep in preparation for the Moon-Mars
Blitz, a Capitol Hill
briefing event to take place July 11-13, 2004. During that
period, SEA expects to visit
over 200 Congressional offices to promote the new Vision
for Space Exploration.
The new members are: Federation of Galaxy Explorers, Global
Space Travelers, Moon
Society, NASA Alumni League, Space Generation Foundation,
Space Studies Institute
and X PRIZE Foundation.
They join the existing membership, including: Aerospace
Industries Association, Aerospace States Association,
American Astronautical Society,
American Institute of
Aeronautics and Astronautics, California Space Authority,
Florida Space Authority,
The Mars Society, National Coalition of Spaceport States,
National Space Society,
The Planetary Society, ProSpace, Space Access Society and
Space Frontier Foundation.
"We joined with
SEA because it is vital for the community of space organizations
to come together to push Moon, Mars and Beyond," observes former Senator
Jake Garn,
chairman of Global Space Explorers. ";By presenting a united front
to the Congress we
have the best chance for success."
SEA members will be presenting that united front when they visit Capitol
Hill in July. In addition to briefing a large number of House and Senate
offices, SEA will also hold the Moon-Mars Rally on July 13th.
"The Congress
needs to know why this new space exploration effort is so important
to the future of the United States," ProSpace president Marc Schlather
declared. "SEA will
bring Americans from all walks of life to Washington to
make that case directly."

About the Space Generation Foundation
The
Space Generation Foundation (SpaceGen) was founded in
1985. One of SpaceGen’s
earliest projects was the creation of the International
Space University, now with a permanent
campus in France. Established and
run by students and young professionals, SpaceGen works
to ignite passion and excitement for space exploration
in young people- creating the next
generation of space leaders and pioneers.
The SpaceGen vision is to identify individuals who are committed to creating
access to space for all people and build a team to provide the support,
encouragement, motivation, and connection necessary to turn their dreams
into reality. SpaceGen seeks to allow these leaders, and the general public,
to directly participate in and support the opening of space.
